There is little Jim hasn’t seen and done during his more than three decades in the healthcare industry.  He has had instrumental consulting roles to the C-Suites of major provider systems; managed and led 9-figure M&A activities; led a billion-dollar leveraged buyout campaign for a major publicly-traded medical company; and provided deep analysis and strategy development for numerous JVs, start-ups, turnarounds, restructurings and bankruptcies.  Jim has successfully applied his results-oriented negotiating prowess from both sides of the table in complex, multi-layered scenarios — representing both creditors and healthcare businesses in various capacities.

As a nationally respected business development professional in the healthcare industry, Jim has applied his vast knowledge of healthcare’s unique intricacies to a host of high-value, high-stakes projects as varied as the healthcare industry itself.  

By way of example, Jim developed a comprehensive seven year strategic plan for development and delivery of cancer care services for a 6 hospital, 100 clinic region of a major west coast healthcare system; and led research and assessment of the entire Canadian healthcare system, including private providers, to identify investment and joint-venture opportunities for a major publicly-traded corporate client.

Jim developed and applied financial guidance during a difficult transitional phase of a major specialty medical group in Colorado; provided leadership to one of the U.S.’s largest independent orthopedic research institutes; and developed a strategic plan for a major new free-standing comprehensive cancer center for a 3-hospital network in Florida.

In addition, Jim managed and led a $100M project to acquire and transfer the west coast’s largest independent cancer specialty clinic and research institute to a university medical school, an NCI-designated cancer center, and a new dedicated cancer specialty hospital.  He co-led a $1B leveraged buyout campaign for a major publicly traded medical corporation; and performed and provided four-wall analysis of all multi-state operations of a national healthcare company in bankruptcy for holders of $300M in Senior Secured Notes.

Jim has also served as a consultant to medical practices across the U.S. in a wide variety of projects including: process improvement, financial stabilization, business development and management, practice acquisition, succession planning, and business plan development.  He designed and executed TV and print advertising campaigns for physician clients on the west coast; developed “super-group” practices, connecting multiple solo specialty physicians; and designed innovative joint hospital-physician programs in several specialties.

He negotiated with multiple hospitals and major healthcare systems on the East Coast and in the Midwest to develop joint-ventured operations for the world’s largest provider of diagnostic imaging; organized a large-scale I.P.A. for a major hospital company, including all initial contracting; and negotiated the sale of large medical and surgical practices to hospital systems nationwide.

Jim has provided hundreds of Fair Market Value Opinions and Valuations for hospitals and physicians; designed product-line strategies for major hospital groups throughout the U.S., and designed physician practice acquisition policies and procedures for major hospital operators.

Jim served as CEO of one of Los Angeles’s largest multi-specialty medical groups, overseeing all operations, contracting, and interface with hospitals.   Working in the highly specialized arena of Reproductive Endocrinology, he led the introduction of new diagnostic technology, handled the acquisition of the U.S.C. Andrology Lab, managed a major Fertility Clinic, and set up the first Sperm Bank in Central America (Mexico City).

Early in his career, after work as a program director for a large Workers Compensation Insurance company, he served as Executive V.P., Contracting and Development for California’s largest chain of industrial medical clinics.  His role included contracting with major employers, including the City and County of Los Angeles, City of Long Beach, Greyhound, U.P.S., U.S. Postal Service, Honeywell, Bonaventure and Hilton Hotels, among others. He also opened new Workers Compensation Clinics in Fresno and Las Vegas.

Jim, an ordained United Methodist Minister, holds undergraduate degrees from California Western, a graduate degree from S.M.U., and a Master’s Degree from Yale University.
